Originally named Chunyang Cave, Qingyuan Cave was built in the Shaoxing reign of the Southern Song Dynasty, and was praised by the ancient people as the “No.1 Cave” for its historic reputation of ranking top of the 36 caves on Qingyuan Mountain. There used to be structures like Guankong Tower, Buddha Hall and Peixian Ancestral Temple, but were burnt down and destroyed afterwards, except for Peixian Ancestral Temple. The reconstruction work started in 1998, rebuilding Peixian Ancestral Temple, Gunayin Hall and Wenchang Pavilion. Peixian is worshiped in Peixian Ancestral Temple, and the cave is named Peixian Cave, where Peixian passed away and became celestial.
